What is Hatch Street Studios?
Hatch Street Studios is another amazing creative community in New Bedford, MA that houses the studios of artists who attended or taught at SWAIN School of Design that became Southern Massachusetts University, that then became University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth College of Visual and Performing Arts. It also houses some amazing artists who attended or are professors of the amazing Bristol Community College Visual Art and Design program.
Recent Events that Signify the importance of 'Opening the Hatch'
If you haven't heard of the recent debacle going on with the New Bedford Star Store campus of CVPA, I'd highly recommend reading about it through the New Bedford Light publication. They've done a great job covering the events as they unfold. As the Star Store campus suddenly closed, Bristol Community College simultaneously began offering more studio art courses at their downtown New Bedford Campus located across the street from the famous No Problemo restaurant and venue.
'Opening the Hatch' provides the community the opportunity to see what is lost by shutting down such a significant entity, which is future artist creative energy investments in the city.
I'll see you at the Hatch soon!
The 'Opening the Hatch' event is a great opportunity to see a variety of creatives who are very active in not only the arts community worldwide, but anchored in New Bedford. This Sunday from 1-3p I will be joining this group to demonstrate techniques around drawing multifigure designs. This will be a free event. I hope to see you there. I'll place an example below :
Multifigure drawing created from an 'Anatomical Artistry' event at Kat's Kilburn Mills Studio S2-71B
